I've always found family tree projects incredible. And, naturally, predictable.
But what about seeing it differently?*
Using large, incredibly beautiful botany pages from the 1800's, we'll create the family tree we always wanted.
We'll be working with a variety of vintage books' images and text, old photos and ephemera, building the fictional family, the alternate universe you imagine (why shouldn't you have your own auntie mame?!) or , using your own vintage photos of family or even family keepsakes, create a unique, personal version of the family tree to share with the generations.
We'll incorporate painting & stamping, sewing with fabric and vintage millenary pieces, and a treasure trove of vintage book images and old photos.
Because it's a fabulous way to get the creative juices flowing and because we love being neighbors with a book store, we'll visit The Last Book Store downstairs from the studio space. We'll start our class with a quick stroll through The Labyrinth, their $1 books section, and If you see a book that inspires you for the Fictional Family Tree project, by all means, grab it!
*A family tree, or pedigree chart, is a chart representing family relationships in a conventional tree structure. One of the oldest branches of science, Botany examines the human effort to understand life on Earth by tracing the historical development.
