Fabric Memoir Book Workshop

with Molly Meng

$75. (includes supplies) for 4 hours (1 session)

This workshop has already taken place! Join our mailing list and be the first to learn about upcoming workshops!

Based on old French linen folding maps, in this workshop, we’ll be creating a folded fabric book that holds your dearest treasures. Beginning with a “blank page” (linen/hemp fabric), we’ll cut and sew and collage; we’ll age book pages and type up missives to create a story on individual fabric squares, each to be then hand-sewn into your book (bring your glasses for that part!)

All supplies for this class are provided: vintage fabric, indigo-dyed linen, vintage ephemera, as well as all tools needed.

And, of course, please feel free to bring your own vintage fabric/tea towel/linen sheet to cut down to size,

as well as any ephemera that you’d like to use to make your book truly unique.

It’s a good idea to think about the idea of this piece ahead of time, who you may be intending it for, or what the concept might surround. It can be overwhelming to face a blank template in the time allotted.

The book shown here is the tale of a trip to France: the ribbons collected, the maps used, the photos taken… maybe yours will become a memoir, or a baby book, or a secret collection holder…

We can comfortably accommodate six students for each workshop - click on the link to purchase and reserve your seat.

All workshops are held in the Meng & Mahar Studio Space located in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles. Click here for the address, directions, a map and parking information.
