Block Printing is one of the oldest types of printmaking, and has been around for thousands of years. There is evidence that it existed as early as the fifth century BC, with actual fragments found from as early as the fifteenth century. It has been done around the world, with roots in India, China and Japan.
Join us for a fun day of creation, where you’ll learn to create your very own "block" for printing with ink and paint on fabric and paper. We’ll learn about transfering images, designing your own, and an introduction to the different kinds of supplies to be used in this exciting process.
We'll be printing on both fabric and paper, you may want to bring an apron!
As with any project that can be personalized, if you have a design you'd like to try, feel free to bring it with you, as well as anything in particular you might want to try printing on in class. Otherwise, you'll be headed home with your re-usable block that day and can print to your hearts content!
We can comfortably accommodate six students for each workshop - click on the link to purchase and reserve your seat.
All workshops are held in the Meng & Mahar Studio Space located in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles. Click here for the address, directions, a map and parking information.
