I am consumed by the idea of creating a story, a background tale, in all my work. I find this to be an invaluable way to approach workshops or your own fine-art study. I am often asked how I make the work I do and I am drawn to share this concept.

In this class we'll be creating a panel with mixed ephemera. We'll learn how to lay out a concept, age materials, and compose color palettes. We'll discuss the arrangement of visual elements on a page and organizational principles of composition to achieve specific communication objectives.

We'll be working with vintage book pages, ephemera, documents, stamps, vintage photos, natural materials, vintage textiles and old millinery objects. We'll sort through these materials while discussing construction concepts and creating new stories from old lives. There is so much to explore in this tiny but mighty Story Panel.

As with any of my workshops, I will provide all the materials you need to create your finished work, but you may want to bring personal items (photos, documents, hand-written notes), they can be flat or 3-d, to make your story panel even more personal.

What begins as raw, blank panel becomes an incredible creation and story telling art piece. We will be hand stitching all items onto our panel, so make sure you bring your glasses and your fingers are feeling nimble!

We can comfortably accommodate six students for each workshop - click on the link to purchase and reserve your seat.

All workshops are held in the Meng & Mahar Studio Space located in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles. Click here for the address, directions , a map and parking information.
